Dog licensing

All dogs that are six months of age or older must be registered with the Animal Control Centre.

Any person who is the owner of a dog that is six months of age or older must, within 14 days of becoming its owner, obtain a licence from the Animal Control Centre to keep the dog. [1] Some basic information about the dog will be requested, such as its breed, colour, gender, age and name.

As part of the licensing process, the dog owner's name and address will also be requested, which will be linked to a licence number engraved on a metal tag that can be attached to the dog's collar.

The licence fee is BBD $5 for one year, or BBD $10 for three years. [2] However, if the dog has been neutered or spayed, there is no fee for a dog licence if a valid neutering certificate is furnished at the time of the application. [3]

The Animal Control Centre has the right to refuse a licence to an applicant if they have reason to believe that the applicant may not take appropriate care of the dog's maintenance or wellbeing. [4]

All dog licences must be renewed within one month after they expire. [5]
